Industry Forum Sessions
Supply Chain Management
This session will give attendees a general understanding of the fundamentals of supply chain planning and inventory management within a manufacturing organisation, and how to manage it to achieve an optimised working capital position. We will define the best practice planning approach, inventory and its objectives, review the characteristics of inventory in the supply chain and how to successfully manage variability of demand. Through detailing the strategic supply chain management process and inventory trade-off decisions we will show how an organisation can determine whether inventory is an asset or a liability.

An Introduction to Operational Excellence in Manufacturing
This session will give attendees the general context around manufacturing operations and the principles which underpin its improvement such as Lean, TPM and Six Sigma. We will then expand on each principle in more detail giving delegates a greater understanding of when to apply them and give a focus not just on making improvement but also sustaining it.

Brexit Readiness Programme
With the uncertainty created by Brexit there is a need to prepare for the changes which may come as a result of the UK leaving the EU.
Many companies are unsure of where to start their analysis or simply ‘don’t know what they don’t know’. For this reason, SMMT has assembled expert advisors for the purpose of providing guidance and assistance to members both pre- and post-Brexit, and will be on hand to answer your questions and offer advice at Automechanika Birmingham.
Expert advisors, including Grant Thornton, Gowling WLG, PwC and Squire Patton Boggs, will be present on the SMMT stand and will be providing a series of seminar sessions within the Vehicle Production Seminar Programme for visitors.
Topics will be drawn from the Brexit Readiness Programme which focuses on Customs, Tax, Trade, Employment, Finance, Intellectual Property, Regulatory Changes, Contracts, Environment, New Technology and State Aid.
Future Mobility & Innovation Showcase
New for 2019, working in association with the Department for International Trade and key industry partners, Automechanika Birmingham will host a dedicated showcase of the UK’s capabilities with the latest technologies in connected and autonomous vehicles, electrification, ultra-low emissions and battery technology.
