We managed to see lots of suppliers and listened into a couple of the seminars which were really interesting. We’ll be back this year and can’t wait to see how much bigger the event will be. It is the perfect opportunity for us to network with the industry, discover new companies, and most importantly, source new products for us to supply to our customers.”

Supply chain seminars & events
In the dedicated Supply Chain Zone, the supply chain seminars will host experts speakers from the likes of SMMT, Jaguar Land Rover, Industry Forum, National Composites Centre and the AIO. The presentations cater for the supply chain audience including senior management, engineers and procurement professionals from vehicle manufacturers, tier 1, tier 2 and upstream manufacturers.

Visitors will see sessions covering innovation and research & development, connected & autonomous vehicles, manufacturing technologies, industry 4.0 & advanced manufacturing, and logistics & supply chain.

Paul Longstaff, MCIPS Senior Buyer from Calsonic Kansei said “I’ve registered for the 2017 event already. Automechanika Birmingham is a great opportunity to see the new technologies and product launches for the automotive supply chain all in one place. The event gives me a chance to catch up with familiar faces and discover new ones and I think the new dedicated supply chain zone will help me to do that. While I’m there, I’ll head to the SMMT events and I’m looking forward to finding out who will be hosting the supply chain seminars.”

Connected and Digital Technology Zone
New in the supply chain zone, SMMT with support from Automechanika Birmingham will display the Connected and Digital Technology Zone which will demonstrate the latest cutting edge automotive technologies. The area will feature products coming to market, but also those that will enable the design, development and manufacture of the vehicles of tomorrow.

Assets are being sourced from across SMMT members, including vehicle manufacturers, suppliers of various sizes, engineering firms and manufacturing technology companies. There will be a range of interactive elements on show including Virtual and Augmented reality and robotics, giving visitors a very tangible and memorable sense of the impact different technologies will have on the industry.

SMMT will also bring their two flagship networking events; Open Forum and Meet the Buyer. Open Forum will deliver a morning of automotive supply chain seminars on Tuesday 6th June, bringing together over 300 senior delegates from OEMs, tier 1, medium and small suppliers. The event offers an opportunity to network with new and existing contacts in the automotive supply chain. The full agenda will be announced over the coming weeks.

SMMT will also host Meet the Buyer on Wednesday 7th June, which offers a day of one to one meetings and matches suppliers with OEM and tier 1 buyers who have a stand in the Meet the Buyer area. This year, SMMT will be partnering with the Department for International Trade (DIT) and over 20 key buyers have already signed up for the event.
